About

Dr Ciro Chiappini is Reader in BioNano Engineering and Associate Dean for Impact at King’s College London. His research combines nanotechnology, bioengineering and cell biology to develop new approaches to advanced therapies and spatial biology.

His team is advancing nanoneedle technologies for gene delivery and editing in inherited skin and eye diseases, cell engineering, and repeated molecular sampling of living tissues. He also develops nanomaterials for regenerative medicine. His research has been supported by the ERC Starting Grant, UKRI, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Before joining King’s, he held Newton International and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships at Imperial College London. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He has authored more than 70 publications and is an inventor on five patents.
