Personalised cell therapies such as CAR-T cells need small, decentralised production runs that large bioreactors handle poorly. Will Edwards, Ningjia Sun and colleagues developed the KCL-Microbioreactor (K-MBR), a closed microfluidic platform that combines perfusion and viral transduction in a compact footprint, and used it to generate functional CAR-Tregs targeting HLA-A2.
